WHAT WE ABOUT!
By Dirty: Funk Rhythm was created with the K.I.M. (keep it movin) basic principle whether you're in a "Funk" or in a "Rhythm" throughout you're daily lives. Both terms I borrowed from my favorite group of all time, A Tribe Called Quest. For me it applies to keep creating in different mediums like art and music whether I'm feeling down with no decent ideas or I'm feeling invincible and could run for president. For you it might be to keep collecting beenie babies, if that's what you do. But the idea is to keep it moving.
Funk Rhythm was started in and around 2004-05 as an avenue to put out my music and my t-shirt designs, etc... I did a couple of shirts and a couple of cd releases but life changes like the births of my two childen forced me to focus my attention elsewhere. In other words I didn't really have the time to eff with it. In the mean time, I kept things moving at my own pace learning along the way. I left my agency job and started my own design company and things have been good. Fast forward to April 2008 when I was at a crossroads with Funk Rhythm (because my domain name was expiring) on if I should kill it because I don't really mess with it or revive it with some new thangs and not just let it be about me and my ish but more about music, art and life in general and what's poppin off in those arenas. Don't get me wrong, I still will be pimping out my ish though.
The collage above is a representation of what has inspired me and motivated me to be the person I am. I didn't include things like my family because that's a given. I included things at different parts of my life that molded me to like the things I like and do the things I do. If you are wondering why superman is in there, it's not because I think of myself as a "super" man. Superman taught me my morals and I use the Christpher Reeves Superman because no matter how super and invincible you think you are......You too can catch a bad one. Due to extra clutter I left out things and people like Hall & Oates (maneater is in my top 5 all time), Hair Metal (I was an MTV kid and that's what they were giving me), Billy Preston ("Will it go round in circles" was my first taste of funk), DJ Q Bert (I had this mixtape he did and the 90's that made me buy my first tables), X Clan (Funkin Lession), 3rd Bass (made me feel unashamed to be the only white kid in my high school with a high top fade). I have more but can't think of them right now. To be updated I guess.
